Report: Bertone reveals first images of Nuccio concept

While the Bertone Nuccio concept sketches released a couple weeks ago basically showed us nothing, but the latest batch of renderings better communicate what we'll see at next month's Geneva Motor Show. Designed by Stile Bertone's Mike Robinson and named for Giuseppe "Nuccio" Bertone, the concept is based on the 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero concept, a car created under Nuccio's leadership.At 1,220 millimeters high, the Nuccio is 7 mm taller than a Ferrari 458. It's powered by a 4.3-liter V8 making 483 horsepower, which matches the numbers for the engine going into the updated Ferrari California. If past Bertone concepts are instructive, we can expect a lot of surprises from the car when we see it in the metal.

The final day of testing at Jerez confirmed the results from the first two days, with the Kalexes firmly on top in Moto2 - this time in the hands of Italtrans duo Claudio Corti and Takaaki Nakagami - and Danny Kent leading the KTM domination in Moto3, with only the Honda of Maverick Viñales disturbing the Austrian order.
The weather helped the teams make real progress over the three days of the test, with the last day warm and sunny, temperatures rising to a balmy 19°C, with no recurrence of yesterday's rain. Three full days of testing left many riders exhausted, and as the Jerez tarmac became more slippery as it got warmer, fatigue and weather saw a spate of crashes during the day, with Claudio Corti, Alex de Angelis, Max Neukirchner, Damian Cudlin, Xavier Simeon and Angel Rodriguez among the victims in Moto2, while Luis Salom, Kenta Fuji, Jakub Kornfeil, Niccolo Antonelli, Giulian Pedone and Alessandro Tonucci all falling in Moto3. Most of the riders walked away uninjured - though the same could not be said for their machinery - despite the crashes by Corti and De Angelis causing the session to be red-flagged. Pedone and Tonucci were less lucky, however, Pedone fracturing his wrist while Tonucci fractured his calf bone.

Report: Hyundai Veloster Turbo to start at $21,500?

As much as we love the 2012 Hyundai Veloster, it's the 2013 Turbo model that really gets our juices flowing (especially in matte gray, for the record). It takes that unique three-door (four-door?) configuration one step further with the addition of some more aggressive aero bits, a revised front end and new wheels; not to mention a potent 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four underhood, good for 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.
The Veloster Turbo goes on sale this summer, and while official pricing hasn't been released, the folks at Inside Line have apparently confirmed that the car will start at $21,500 - $22,280 when you factor in the $760 destination charge. That's $4,205 more than a base Veloster, but in addition to more power, we expect that some of the base car's optional features will be fitted as standard kit on the Turbo.
What's really interesting, however, is Inside Line's report that the Turbo model was never even part of the original Veloster product strategy here in the United States. No big deal, because we're still getting the forced-induction hatch regardless. But the real reason why this is important is it explains why the Turbo is being offered with a six-speed automatic (in addition to a six-speed manual) rather than the dual-clutch unit found in the base car. Guess that in-house dual-clutch unit can't handle the full 195 lb-ft of the Turbo.
We expect Hyundai to release official Veloster Turbo pricing closer to the car's on-sale date this summer. And if this $21,500 base MSRP stands true, then the affordable end of America's hot hatch pool just got a lot more interesting.

Video: Drifting returns to its mountain roots... in Poland

We'll be honest: We miss drifting. Not the polished, sponsor-laden, energy-drink soaked Formula D. We miss the seedy internet shaky-hand cam videos of Japanese drivers slinging their hand-built machines up the mountain side in the middle of the night. Poland, of all places, has sought to marry the worlds of professional, sanctioned drifting with the thrill of taking on a public road. The pairing of a hill climb with drifting may seem odd, but trust us when we say it works. With fans lining the course and drivers all new to improvised track, anything can happen.
Disrespect the mountain, and you'll wind up on your roof. That didn't stop drivers from giving it all they had, however. Fortunately for those of us who aren't within a train ride of Eastern Europe, camera crews documented all the action for the world to see.
